Giving up his PI gig was tough, but Jake Keller would rather do that any day than partner up with Alexandra McKay. Unfortunately, if he wants to find his friend Fletcher, he has to work with Her Royal Pain-in-the-Behind-ness. Hot or not, the woman makes his jaw twitch.

We welcome you to My Bookish Pleasures! Can you tell us how you got started writing fiction?

I remember making up ghost stories on the bus ride home when I was a little girl, so I’ve always enjoyed storytelling. It wasn’t until I was much older that being a writer even crossed my mind as something I could actually do.

Describe your writing process. Do you plot or write by the seat of your pants? When and where do you write?

I usually know how I want the book to start and end, but I make up the middle as I go. Sometimes the process can be maddening, but the fun is finding out how I get from point A to point B.

I like to write in the morning, at the desk in my home office, which I call my writing nook.

Can you tell us about your most recent release?

My most recent release is The Truth Behind the Mask, which is book four of my Romantic Suspense series, but it can be read as a standalone.

How did you get the idea for the book?

This story of the series is Alexandra McKay’s. This character has spent her life crafting a polished veneer to compartmentalize her past, pain, regrets, and fear. Freeing her of those burdens, and giving her a chance to trust in her heart was all the inspiration I needed.

Of all your characters, which one is your favorite? Why?

Jasper Hart is probably my favorite character to write. I don’t know why, but he cracks me up.

What was the most challenging aspect of writing your book?

Editing is always the most challenging thing for me.

What projects are you currently working on?

I’m working on the fifth and final installment of my McKay series.

What advice would you offer to new or aspiring fiction authors?

Write. It’s the first and best step.
